The story of Highland Warriors
A proud and ancient nation, Scotland has produced many Highland Warriors over the centuries, best known for their desire to fight for what they believe in, their bravery in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds, fearless determination and unwavering loyalty.
Highland Warriors Blended Scotch Whisky pays homage to some of Scotland’s lesser known but no less remarkable heroes, committed women such as Lady Agnes and Flora MacDonald who, as well as standing up for their beliefs, also fought social conventions and stereotypes.
Here’s to all those strong-willed, fiercely independent women, each of whom made their mark exhibiting the noble qualities Highland Warriors are famous for…..and more.
Our Warriors:
Lady Agnes
One of Scotland’s lesser celebrated heroes, Lady Agnes Randolph was a true Highland Warrior, determined as the day is long.
Known for her strong will, Lady Agnes defended her castle from invading troops for five months in 1338, using nothing more than her sharp Scottish wit and a few well-aimed boulders dropped from the ramparts.
Even when the enemy threatened to execute her brother unless she surrendered, Lady Agnes cleverly called their bluff saying she’d inherit his title if he died, so this life was spared.
Reinforcements did eventually arrive and the siege was lifted… though we’re sure Lady Agnes would have carried on just fine without them.
Lady Anne Mackintosh
One of Scotland’s lesser celebrated heroes, Lady Anne Mackintosh was a true Highland Warrior, loyal to the end.
Scotland’s first female Colonel, Lady Anne rallied hundreds of troops to fight for Bonnie Prince Charlie’s rebel cause despite her husband captaining the Government forces.
Duly captured in battle, Captain Mackintosh was released into the custody of Lady Anne, who greeted him with “Your servant, Captain” to which he replied, “Your servant, Colonel”, acknowledging the true boss.
Forever loyal to each other, despite their political differences.
